PACKAGING

Above is three images showing my process from a mockup to a prototype. The top image displays a mockup of the CHECKBOX packaging with the brand logo. The two photos under the mockup image show the prototype I created with a cardboard box, a couple of cans of spray paint, and custom printed stickers. The lime green ombre colors were chosen for the exterior because of it's association with currency and wealth. The electric shade was also chosen to target a fresh younger audience without subconsciously marketing towards a specific gender.

GIFT CARD PACKAGING

The CHECKBOX package design was a challenge in the beginning stages of the project because it was difficult finding a way to incorporate something so small such as gift cards and make it the main focal point of the packaging. Since the brand's main focus is on delivering gift cards to customers, it is important to make sure that the cards don't get lost underneath all the merchandise. At first, during the sketching process, drawers were decided as the main packaging component to house the gift cards. But, due to a low project budget, creative thinking pushed for card slots located under the lid of the box. In both the mockup and prototype images above, the contents in each box were real items handmade and physically placed inside actual CHECKBOX packaging.

HANDCRAFTED MERCHANDISE

Each item that is shown above (excluding the mobile device, stickers, and pens) was handcrafted. Using a Cricut printer, customized sticker logos were printed out and placed on each gift card, notebook, water bottle, clothing tags, and box. Custom vinyl was cut and ironed on both the hat and sweatshirt. Some products were easier to make than others, for example, the gift cards were empty gift cards and old library cards that had to be spray painted and then stickered. But the sweatshirt was the most challenging item to make for the project. The originally plain white sweatshirt was hand dyed in three times with three different colored dyes to achieve the ombre effect to match the packaging.
