My Art

My art tells a story, and always has a meaning behind it. It is a reflection of my memories, significant events in my life, and my family. They all play a part in my art. My whole life I have struggled with dyslexia. I have learned to accept my imperfections and try to incorporate that into my work. The choppy brush strokes give my art an impressionistic feel, portraying my frustration and struggle with my dyslexia. That is why I enjoy working with oil paints, graphite, charcoal, and printmaking because they are easy to control and are very expressive mediums that come with a wide range of values. I also enjoy challenging myself by exploring different mediums many of which I have become very skilled in. Art is a consistent part of my everyday life and a part of who I am. And most importantly, my art is about the process, not the product. The process makes my art unique and beautiful to me because only I can fully experience the thoughts and decisions I put into my work. Every swipe and brush stroke is made for a reason. Because without the process, there can be no product.
